How does Vidstop compute a time?

Every frame in a video file carries a timestamp. Vidstop subtracts the start frame's timestamp from the end frame's timestamp.

Counting frames and dividing by the frame rate gives the wrong answer when the camera records at a variable frame rate or drops a frame, which phones often do. Reading the timestamps gives the right answer in both cases.

Why should I record in slow motion?

A time can only be as precise as the gap between two frames. At 30 frames per second, frames are 33 milliseconds apart, so a mark can be off by up to 33 milliseconds. At 240 frames per second, the gap is about 4 milliseconds.

The Record button in Vidstop uses the highest frame rate your device supports. The Measure screen shows the frame rate of the video and how much one frame is worth.

How do I open a video from Photos?

1. On the home screen, tap Open.
2. Tap Open from Photos, and then choose the video.

For slow-motion video, Vidstop needs access to all your photos so that it can read the original file. With limited access, iOS gives Vidstop a slowed-down copy instead, and times read long. When that happens, Vidstop shows a Slowed copy banner. To fix it, tap the banner, tap Open Settings, and allow access to all photos. iOS 18 calls this option Full Access, and iOS 17 calls it All Photos.

How do I start the free trial?

The first time you open Vidstop, it shows how the trial works: it lasts 3 days, and when it ends, recording, opening videos, measuring, and viewing saved splits lock until you buy the one-time unlock. Tap Start 3-Day Free Trial and confirm with your Apple Account. The trial is a free in-app purchase, so you aren't charged. During the trial, a days-left badge at the top right of the Home screen shows the time left; tap it to unlock early.

How do I restore my purchase?

If you bought Vidstop or started the trial and then reinstalled it or moved to a new device, open Vidstop and tap Restore Purchases. It's on the first screen, on the screen that shows when the trial ends, and on the unlock screen that the days-left badge opens. Sign in with the same Apple Account that you used before. Your trial and purchase come from your Apple purchase history, so reinstalling doesn't start a new trial.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles payments and refunds for Vidstop. To request a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, and follow the steps to request a refund for Vidstop.
